Ted works primarily in oil, but also in other media such as watercolor, egg tempera, ink, acrylic and pastel.

His interest in drawing and visual art goes back as far as he can remember. Both his mother Joan Howard Kutscher and grandfather John Tasker Howard (composer and musical historian ) were painters. He took up oil painting while in law school. Consistent production of pieces really began with the encouragement of Margaret and Eric Heffelfinger (Vashon Island artists and gallerists) in 1998.

Ted’s feet are held to the fire by his day jobs as an estate planning and tax lawyer and as a financial advisor in Seattle. He and his wife Susan have lived on Vashon Island since 1986 where they own a farmhouse built in 1897. Their daughter Ellen and son Will live and work in Seattle.
